Morrison Chamber of Commerce honored Jeff Weets, Owner of Weets & Son Septic Service, LLC, with a Because Nice Matters award, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.  At noon, Chamber members and Board members gathered for the presentation, at this Morrison, IL, septic and portable restroom service business.  Resthave Care & Rehabilitation sponsored a personalized, laser-etched, drink container; Chamber President Kevin Schlisler read the certificate.

It stated, “Presented to Jeff Weets…in appreciation for your efforts in creating the best experience for our community, the Morrison Chamber of Commerce proudly recognizes and congratulates you as the recipient of the Because Nice Matters Award.  We sincerely appreciate your outstanding commitment to our community!”

The nominator wrote, “Jeff responds to septic issues/requests promptly and routinely.  I had an older couple who were concerned with the sale of their property.  Jeff responded promptly, explained everything clearly, and treated them respectfully.  My clients told me how good he was with them.”

Weets & Son Septic Service originated in 1965 by Delbert Weets.  He previously was “Parts Manager at Schuler Motors, Inc. and worked for the [Whiteside County] Highway Department,” stated his son.  The Weets children “were always involved” in the business.  “At age seven, we kids got our Social Security numbers,” Jeff recalled.

Jeff purchased the business in 1990.  In 2015, a 50-year anniversary celebration was held at the business’s more recent location.  Delbert’s photo hangs behind Jeff”s office desk.  “Delbert E.” can still be read on the side of the tank of the truck.

Even with business limitations during the COVID-19 pandemic, in “2020, we had a really good year, better than the year before.  I guess we were considered ‘essential,'” Weets noted.

Jeff said he and Risa “do a lot of drag racing” as a hobby.  However, from Friday, May 14, through Sunday, June 27, 2021, they enjoyed an extended, first-time visit to Europe.  The impetus was to visit daughter Sarah Weets-Carino and the newest grandchild in Germany.  The couple toured Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and France.

In the latter country, they spent a week in and around Paris.  “Disney Paris was awesome, much nicer than [Disneyland] California!”

In northern France they visited Normandy:  WWII D-Day invasion sites of Omaha and Utah Beaches and the United States cemeteries.

“It was our first trip to Europe.  It was an experience!  I have a whole new respect for customers who speak [non-English,]” he noted.

Even though he was away for six weeks, Weets knew “loyal customers will wait until” he gets back.  “Secretary-Daughter Emily [Grady] counted 80+ messages arriving while [I] was on vacation!”  Daughter Katie Tucker “took care of personal aspects for Mom and Dad,”  noted Risa.  Brother Scott Weets filled in; he is a Road Commissioner.
