At noon on Thursday, October 29, 2020, Morrison Chamber of Commerce Director LeAnn Schaefer presented Dave Woods the Because Nice Matters Award. Since August 1989, he has been employed at Sullivan’s Foods, 300 N. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.
The certificate read, “Morrison Chamber of Commerce proudly recognizes and congratulates you, as the recipient of the Because Nice Matters Award, not because nice is easy, but because nice matters! We sincerely appreciate your outstanding customer service and your commitment to our community.”
Woods is notable for his helpfulness and friendly nature, whether by offering to carry out groceries for customers or his “How are you doing?” He is responsible for carry out, any stocking of items, and “anywhere they like to put me.” This sometimes includes a bit of snow removal at the front door.
He was born August 13, 1964, in Morrison, to Alice and Tom Woods and has lived here always. He remarked, “both parents taught [him] to be helpful to others.”
Often seen wearing sports team apparel, Woods is a avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. “I’ve been to Wrigley [Field Stadium] a number of times; last year I went seven times.” Usually he attends “six or seven times a year, but not this year, because of COVID.”
Congratulations, Dave Woods.
Sharing in the celebration were, left-to-right, Meridith Layne; Alan Gravert; Kevin Schisler; Dave Woods; Schaefer; Karla Burn; Stephanie Vavra.
