Thousands of patients depend on the “Be The Match Registry” to find a donor who can give them a second chance at life. You may hold that power. Take the first step. Join the University of Iowa Marrow Donor Program.
To join the registry, you only need to
- be between the ages of 18 and 44.
- be willing to donate to any patient in need.
- meet health guidelines.
Terry Adolph of Chadwick, IL, was diagnosed in October 2009 with follicular lymphoma, as well as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. He underwent a stem cell transplant, using his own stem cells, in October 2011. He relapsed in December 2012. His only hope now is to find an unrelated donor for a second transplant–which is his best chance for a cure.
On Wednesday, August 14, 2013, there will be a bone marrow donor drive with the hope of finding Terry’s match. It will be at Medical Associates West Annex Building, 931 13th Avenue North, Clinton, IA, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
- Donors merely take a mouth swab.
- Donors will be entered into a Nationwide database.
- Even if you are not a match for Terry Adolph, you could be a life saver for someone else.
- There is no fee to donate, if you are under age 45.
- Persons 45 to 60 may be tested at a fee.
- All donations are welcome, whether or not you qualify as a donor.
To offset expenses for the test kits, there will be a bake sale and silent auction at the registry drive. All proceeds will go to “Be The Match Registry.”
