Head Varsity Baseball coach Ben Sondgeroth again has recruited a team of volunteers to build the team’s 3rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, January 12, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the high school cafeteria, 643 Genesee Avenue, Morrison, IL.
The bread squad is in pursuit of French loaves which Morrisonians have come to love; two slices are included. Beverages–lemonade, coffee, and tea–round out the roster at $5, and children ages five and younger eat for free.
The baseball team will sell tickets in advance, to aid in planning enough food for the anticipated throng of supporters. Alternately, contact Coach Sondgeroth for advanced tickets at 815-772-4071, extension 2209, or via email ben.sondgeroth@morrisonschools.org to ensure your meal.
Coach Sondgeroth stated 36 young men attended the informational baseball meeting. There are nine Varsity players (seven Seniors, two Juniors) and about two dozen Fresh-Soph members.
The team’s Head Cook is his father, Robert Sondgeroth, who brings a record of over 20 years spearheading outstanding spaghetti suppers throughout the Sauk Valley. The father’s secret offense? A famous, made-from-scratch sauce that simmers all day and quality, lean beef. All the meat has been pledged as a donation.
“He never makes it for us at home,” stated Coach Sondgeroth, “because [Dad] only knows how to make it in large sizes [for fundraisers!]”
The proceeds for this dinner will go towards
- multiple new items for the baseball team
- supporting costs of umpires and equipment for the new high school Summer Baseball Program
- purchase Astro-turf for the new batting cage at the Sports Complex (around a $1000)
- purchase of a three-wheel pitching machine ($2000.)
Last year with the matching funds provided by Modern Woodman Financial the team raised $5,000. We are lucky to again have the support of Modern Woodman Financial and their matching funds.
There will be various raffle items available for dinner-goers. Are you an alumnus of the baseball program? Look for your old number on various out-of-commission uniforms. They will be for sale for $10.
After dinner, change venue to the gymnasium and cheer the Girl’s Varsity and Sophomore Basketball teams as they challenge Port Byron (Riverdale.)
If you are unable to attend the Spaghetti Dinner, consider at donation.
Purchase a “section” of a pitching machine wheel or a chunk of Astroturf.
