Barbara R. Johnson (1925 – 2017)

barbara johnsonBarbara R. Johnson, 91, of Resthave Home, Morrison, IL, died Monday, December 19, 2016, at the nursing home.

Barbara was born on April 16, 1925, in Moline, IL, to Emile J. and Ruth M. (Anderson) Elander. She was educated in the Moline grade schools and was a graduate of Moline High School. On February 2, 1946, she married Lyle L. “Buzz” Johnson in Moline. He died January 6, 2003. Barbara was a cashier at Walgreen’s Drug Store and also worked in the Bookkeeping Department at the Rock Island Arsenal. She was a farmer’s wife and sold grade A milk and eggs. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison. Barbara was a member of the Resthave Auxiliary, where she helped to make quilts and serve meals. She served as a 4-H leader and was a Superintendent of Fine Arts and Textilse at the Whiteside County Fair for seven years. She enjoyed watercolor painting with local artist, Mae Domack, and had a passion for sewing clothing and coats, along with knitting. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading USA Today newspapers. She participated in all the activities at Resthave and also bowled for several years. Her favorite hobby was using her digital camera to take pictures of her family get-togethers and Resthave activities.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy (Wayne) Thomas of Bradenton, FL, Candy Theobald of West Chicago, IL, and Kathleen (Jonas) Steinberg of West Palm Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Krista (Tim) Bollnow and Adam (Lindsey) Steinberg; three great-grandchildren,  Brodie Bollnow, Kassandra Bollnow, and Benjamin Steinberg; one sister, Jacqueline J. Johnson of Tequesta, FL; many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Edwin J. Lundstrom; her husband, Lyle; one sister, Mary Jane Voss; one son-in-law, George Theobald; several sisters and brothers-in-law.

MEMORIAL SERVICE:  10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Morrison

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Bob Burton, Pastor of Bethesda Lutheran Church

There will be no VISITATION.

INTERMENTOakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, IL

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
