The third annual Strides for Students 5k run/walk–for all ages–will be held at Morrison-Rockwood State Park on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 8:00 a.m. The 5K starts and finishes near the Cedar Ridge Pavilion in the park and loops through the campgrounds. The scenic course is fairly flat and fast, and it contains no turnarounds. About half of the course is shaded.
To pre-register for the race or for more information, visit www.stridesforstudents.org, pick up a registration card at local businesses, or call Jan at 815-718-3421 to have a form mailed to you. You may also register Downtown Main Street, by visiting the Morrison Schools Foundation’s booth at the Morrison Farmers’ Evening Market on Wednesday, July 29, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
All pre-registered participants will receive a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group and also to the top male and female Morrison High School alumni. Participants will have access to a water station on the course and post-race refreshments.
All proceeds from the race go to the Morrison Schools Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to enhance the education of our students, by raising funds to enable greater educational opportunities.
Specifically, the proceeds from Strides for Students support the Foundation’s mini-grant program. This funds teacher requests for special teaching tools and/or curriculum tools, to help enhance student achievement in the classroom. Classroom supplements bought with mini-grant monies are tied to Common Core curriculum goals.
Packet pick-up and late registration for the race will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, or from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. race morning, at the Cedar Ridge Pavilion. During the Thursday evening packet pick-up, the course will be marked for those wishing to do a practice run.
