August 17 and 18 Winners from Bikes to Painted Gourds

Posted by

Aleeya Dykstra, 10 of Byron, IL, won the bicycle giveaway on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.  Gibson Oil Company, 540 Commercial Street, Lyndon, IL, was the sponsor.  Morrison grandparents Dan and Tina Dykstra brought Aleeya to the Fair; her parents are Ben and Brittany Meiter.  The fifth grader is happy to miss school this week, in order to exhibit her 1300-pound steer, Maximus, on August 17 and 20.  WCF is the fourth 2021 venue where she entered Maximus, winning First in Class and Reserve (second place) Champion awards.  The Editor asked the youngster if Maximus will be used for breeding after his successful showings.  She emphatically replied, “We’re going to eat him!”

Below are listed winners from Tuesday, August 17, and Wednesday, August 18, 2021, in Junior and Open Textiles; Junior and Open Hobbies; Junior Floriculture; Open Horticulture; Junior and Open Dairy; Junior and Open Ag Products.    All towns are in Illinois unless noted.

21-02/ JUNIOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS
Scott Connelly is Superintendent of Ag Products and Horticulture.  On Friday, August 20, 2021, he said, “I feel that we are up [in entries this year] in the Open categories of Grains and Vegetables.  Juniors were a little bit down, and that made less competition for the Juniors.  Also, there are several new names [entered.]  Fruit is a little bit up from last time [2019.]  The newest class, from 2019, is Best Decorated Gourd, or painted gourds.”  (See Vegetables below.)

Marissa Folkers of Morrison earned Premier Exhibitor Honors in the Grains Division for the second year in a row, with Breann Keller of Geneseo earning Premier Exhibitor Honors in the Vegetables Division, at the Fair’s Junior Agricultural Products Show.  All towns are in Illinois unless noted.
