On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, six-year-old Bhodi Janssen, of Morrison, IL, was the second, fortunate bicycle recipient, during the 153rd Whiteside County Fair.  He is a first grader at Northside School in Mrs. Story’s class.  He has a “good bike” but is pleased with the new one.  Although Bhodi cannot ride his new bike to school, he can ride near the house.  His dad is going on a bike race next weekend, stated his mother.  The sponsor is First Gateway Bank, Morrison.

EMT-B Brandy Johnson has been employed since January 2024, as a certified emergency worker at Morrison Community Hospital.  She cares for patients on scene and while taking patients to the hospital by ambulance.  Johnson was in the Emergency Tent for most of her an 11.5-hour shift, on August 14.  She explained that during the Western Horse speed events at 9:00 a.m., she had moved there–just in case of injuries.  It was an uneventful day.

Each day at the General Store, on the north side of the grandstand, volunteers sell Walking Tacos, sodas, water, and merchandise as a fundraiser.  On Wednesday, August 14, volunteers were Julie Bielema; Jen Black; Pam Brackemeyer; Chris Buis; Brenda Grimes; Judy Herbsleb; Terry Klimstra; Kim Matje; Cindy Ottens.  Their local, not-for-profit organization is named WHOA (White Oaks Therapeutic Equestrian Center.)  It is housed at the fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL.  WHOA volunteers offer assisted equine activities to individuals with disabilities–even while riding backwards!  This is a file photo from the past.
