On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Morrison Community Hospital Marketing Director Mick Welding wrote, “We couldn’t help being so excited over this generous, hand made donation, from an area High School student.

“What a special donation we received! Stella Ashdown, Fenton, IL, [right,] crocheted some soft and f[luff]y animals, to give as a comfort pet, to our young Emergency Room patients. Stella herself was given a stuffed animal to hug, when she was only three years old and came to the ER for a head wound. Now she is giving back!

“Thank you so much, Stella. You will put a smile on [the faces of] so many of our young patients.”

Pictured is MCH Hospital Board and MCH Foundation Board member Amanda Cook receiving some of the furry animals from Stella. The young woman hopes to inspire others to crochet these simple squids to donate to the the hospital ER. Ashdown sewed on button eyes. “I can do one in an hour,” she stated.
