Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent. Services on February 10, 2016, are listed below at six Morrison, IL, churches. Each welcomes new and long-time residents as well as visitors to attend.
Bethesda Lutheran Church, 301 W. South Street, will offer The Imposition of the Ashes service and Holy Communion, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Each Wednesday following, from February 17 through March 16, there will be a 6:00 p.m. Soup Supper before 7:00 services. Please bring a sandwich. The Holden Evening Prayer material is a series of dramas that deliver the message. The theme is “The People vs Jesus.” Participants will portray a jury.
First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, 100 E. Lincolnway, will offer The Imposition of the Ashes service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Each Wednesday following, from February 17 through March 16, there will be Lenten Bible Study from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, will offer The Imposition of the Ashes service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 401 N. Cherry Street, will follow the Holy Eucharist, Rite One, The Imposition of Ashes, at 7:30 a.m., noon, and 5:30 p.m.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 13320 Garden Plain Road, will offer The Imposition of the Ashes at 8:30 a.m. and at 6:30 p.m., with children involved in the later service. Friday 5:30 p.m. Lenten services will be followed by prayer time at the Stations of the Cross.
St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS, 601 N. Jackson Street, will offer The Imposition of the Ashes service from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Fellowship will follow. Each Wednesday following, from February 17 through March 16, there will be a Lenten service at 7:00 p.m., followed by fellowship.
