PhoebeDoorknobClinton Community College is currently exhibiting the Phoebe Jan-McMahon art show “The Adjacent” in the CCC Library Art Gallery.  Her exhibit lasts through January 2019.  The community is invited to attend the Artist Reception on Thursday, January 31, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., in the Art Gallery located at 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton, IA.

Phoebe Jan-McMahon is from Madison Wisconsin. After receiving her BA in Studio Art from Luther College in 2013, Jan-McMahon continued her education as a Hixson-Lied Graduate Fellow, Graduate Teaching Assistant, and an Instructor of Record in Painting and Drawing at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Last fall she joined Clinton Community College as Art faculty.

Jan-McMahon’s paintings offer visual knots that invite the viewer to meander through and meditate on familiar subjects though a new lens.  The Adjacent explores spaces found in her apartment.  Paintings examine the quietness of The Adjacent as a familiar space, where one can process, escape, and heal from the cacophonous politics and harshness of everyday life.

Abstract painter Ben Holmberg is the next artist to showcase his work in the CCC Library Art Gallery.  His creative pieces will be available for viewing from Friday, February 1, through Thursday, March 28.  An Artist Reception is planned for Thursday, March 28, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., in the CCC Library Art Gallery, 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton.

Holmberg studied art at Luther College in Decorah, IA.  His primary mediums include oil paint, pencil, and ink. With a faint interest in architecture, a personal allure for incandescent nightclub colors, and a seemingly endless supply of blue painters’ tape, he creates paintings that are rigid and boxy, while attempting to be organic and tranquil.  Holmberg currently resides in Minneapolis, MN, where he continues to create work.

Following the Holmberg show, CCC students will show their work in the CCC Library Art Gallery through Saturday, May 4.  The Artist Reception will be held Thursday, May 3, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Area communities are welcome to visit the CCC Art Gallery during Library hours, 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton.
