Arlene V. Johnson, 93, died Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, Morrison, IL.
Arlene was born August 11, 1926, in Marathon, IA, the daughter of Werner and Beda (Johanson) Hedberg. She married Harvey W. Johnson on August 12, 1949, in Albert City, IA. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2015. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, IL. Arlene graduated from Augustana College in 1948, with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology. She was a Speech Therapist in several Illinois school systems, retiring from Sterling Public Schools in 1986. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and cross stitch and made many things for family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter Miriam “Mimi” (Dennis Staats) Duffiin of Sterling; sons, Mark (Sharon) Johnson of Goose Creek, SC, and Brian (Tami) Johnson of Burnsville, MN; daughter-in-law, Faith Beatty-Johnson of Pinetop, AZ; nine grandchildren, Mark (Kasey) Johnson, Jenny Johnson, Emily Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Adam Duffin, Tori Duffin, Charity Johnson, and Peace Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Layla Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; son, Thomas Johnson; son-in-law, Drew Duffin; two brothers; two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, IL, with Reverend Leo Patterson, officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, IL.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday Februay 20, 2020, at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 21, prior to services at the church.
A memorial has been established to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, IL.
