April 9 Sheriff’s Office Dual Fatality Report

On Friday, April 9, 2021, at 9:14 a.m., Whiteside County Deputies along with Fulton Police Department responded to a single-vehicle fatality traffic crash, on U. S. Route 136 just west of Sand Road.  Driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by Whiteside County Coroner Joseph McDonald.

A black SUV traveling eastbound left the roadway, traveling through the southbound ditch.  The vehicle rolled, and both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was 71-year-old Stephen E. Higdon,  His wife, 70-year-old Catherine S. HIgdon, was in the front passenger seat.  The Higdons lived in Morrison, IL.  They had lived in Fairfield,  IA, prior to moving to Morrison, IL.  Higdon was a Minister in Fairfield for many years.

Deputies were assisted by Fulton and Albany Police, Illinois State Police, and Fulton Fire and Ambulance.  The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office
