April 30 Grand Opening of Morrison’s Heritage Museum

Exterior2012Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Morrison’s Heritage Museum is located at 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.  The building has a storied history, first as an 1865 Congregational Church; second as a meeting site for the Scientific and Literary Society; third as Odell Public Library.  If you have not been inside the building since the library moved to its new home–in the summer of 1995–please know that you are “overdue.”  All overdue book fines have been forgiven.

The Opening Day program is a return engagement by Morrison Music Theatre Association (MMTA.)  You will meet the following late residents:  Eunice Abbott (actor CAROL JANVRIN); Clara Kimmel (CAROLYN AIKEN); Robert Millikan (ERIC PHEND); William Pleasant (KIM MEYERS); John Renkes (EDWIN DAVIS); Mary Robertson (CONNIE SWANSON-DESPAIN); Ferdinand Trautwein (KRAIG SCHWEISS.)

Which won a Noble Prize? started the telephone company? was a Whiteside County Sheriff?  Come find out on April 30.  For this day only, purchase the book of 28 “People To Be Remembered” for just $5 (half price.)

The Morrison Historical Society Board of Trustees invites the public to its Grand Opening of the 2017 season, on Sunday, April 30, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Trustees include Bill Brackemyer, Mary Ellen Brackemyer, Bill Huber, Doug McCulloh, Owen McCulloh, Carole Patton, Shayne Prange, D. J. Sikkema, Dan Vandermyde, Stephanie Vavra, Robert Vegter, Diane Wiebenga, Deb Wikoff, and Harvey Zuidema.

Beginning in May, the museum will be open Friday-through-Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Visits at other times can be arranged.  Organizations and Clubs may use the building for meetings.

In August 2016, Morrison Historical Society Trustees and Friends of Annan Mill members welcomed former resident Brent Sikkema, holding a photo of Annan Mill.  Sikkema donated the 1859 mill to MHS in December 2015.
