April 22 Morrison Lions Recycle Day

Posted by

Morrison Lions Club Recycle Day falls on Saturday, April 22, 2023, coinciding with Earth Day, which is observed annually on this date. Observe Earth Day by helping to keep Morrison beautiful, by participating in the event at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

One major change this year is that Lions will not accept TVs and computer monitors. However, there is good news. The Whiteside County Highway Department, located at 18819 Lincoln Road (Route 30, east of Morrison), now accepts TVs and computer monitors throughout the year, at no cost for Whiteside County residents. A tan-colored cargo container has been modified to allow items to be placed inside, through a sliding access window located on the east side. A concrete ramp provides access to the window. Open the access door and leave items inside on the table. Please close and latch the window when finished. The shed is accessible 24/7 and is located near the Highway Maintenance Shop and Fueling Station, for County vehicles that operate continuously. Beware of vehicles at all times.

Please note: Above items must be intact. If there are larger items that won’t fit or you need assistance in unloading items, please call ahead to the Highway Department during regular office hours (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) at 815-772-7651.

At the Recycle Day event at the Fairgrounds, Morrison Lions will accept other electronics at no cost, although monetary donations will be appreciated, to support community projects. New this year–sneakers/tennis shoes will be accepted. Other examples are computers, fax machines, telephones, calculators, cameras, camcorders, CD and DVD players, VCRs, microwaves, keyboards, modems, projectors, printers, scanners, shredders, string lights, cords, etc. Lions will collect old eyeglasses, keys, cell phones, printer cartridges, and American flags.

Morrison Police Department collects ammunition, old prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and pet medications. Pills must be out of the bottles and placed into a clear, plastic bag. No bottles, needles, syringes, or liquids will be accepted.

Paper products, including cardboard, magazines, soft-covered books, and newspapers will be accepted. The Scouts BSA will be accepting aluminum cans. Unlimited paper shredding will again be available at the Fairgrounds.

Scrap metal and household appliances may be donated, including vacuum cleaners, power and lawn tools, washers, refrigerators, dryers, ovens, dehumidifiers, freezers, water tanks, etc.

Vehicle batteries will be collected, including 6-, 12-, and 24-volt lead, acid batteries from vehicles, mowers, motorcycles, boats, RVs and heavy equipment. Used motor oil and antifreeze may be dropped off at Kunes Auto Group of Morrison, 627 E. Lincolnway, Morrison.

We reserve the right to refuse any item, because there are many things we cannot accept for recycling.
