Metal has been used to make dolls since antiquity, with Germany creating the most famous 19th century examples. A special exhibition titled “Hinges and Hearts: The World of Antique Metal and Mechanical Dolls” will be on view through Sunday, April 6, 2014.
The venue is the German American Heritage Center, shown at left, 712 W. Second Street, Davenport, IA, at the north end of Centennial Bridge.
The hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.
The exhibit is based on the collection of Ellen Tsagaris. Visitors will see what Frankenstein, The Golem, the Invention of Hugo Cabret, Thuringia, Charles Lindbergh, Xenophon, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, and Marie Antionette have in common.
