Saturday, May 5, 2018, is “National Start Seeing Monarchs Day.” Andresen Nature Center, 409 N. 4th Street, Fulton, IL, will celebrate butterflies, moths, and other insects, during Dutch Days, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
After hunkering down in their winter home, the colony of bees is back in the Observation Beehive. There is also a large display of free-form honeycomb, which still contains golden honey.
Children will participate in a number of fun activities:
- build and take home a “sprout house,” where one can observe through a transparent window, the roots of a growing plant
- view displays of live turtle, gecko, and cockroach species
- take the Video Scavenger Hunt, finding and recording signs of animals and insects, around the woods and yard of the Nature Center
- play a magnetic fishing game to learn about local fishes
- plant native prairie seeds to help expand our Twin Fawns Prairies
- make “silhouette” sun prints with leaves and other objects found around the Nature Center (if the sun cooperates)
- explore more activities throughout the facility.
