The bats were busy on Saturday, April 4, 2015, and when the dust cleared Morrison Mustangs Varsity had a decisive win over Amboy in seven innings. Offenses dominated as the Mustangs outscored Amboy 13-8. Morrison improves to 8-1 on the season with the double header sweep.
The teams banged out 28 hits between them, as well as 11 for extra bases. The game was back-and-forth heading into the third, with seven lead changes.

Morrison took the lead in the third inning and held on for the victory. They scored on a two-run double by Andy Bird off Zimmaly, bringing home Cody Southern and Chance Bender. Bird racked up three RBI’s on four hits.
Brock Smith got the win in relief for Morrison Varsity. Smith pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed one run.
The Mustangs easily handled Amboy pitching, as six hitters combined for 14 hits, ten RBI’s and nine runs scored.
Zimmaly was charged with the loss. He allowed 13 runs in five innings, walked two, and struck out two.
Amboy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Amboy’s rally started when Zimmaly singled. A groundout by Jones then moved Zimmaly from first to second. Amboy then tacked on more runs when Barlow scored on a fielder’s choice.
Morrison survived Amboy’s surge and put up two runs of its own in the first. Morrison scored on an RBI single by Ethan Fischbach and an RBI double by Mason Sitzmore.
The lead was Morrison’s to lose after the third inning. More runs came home on two singles.
One run in the top of the fifth helped Amboy close its deficit to 9-7. A passed ball triggered Amboy’s comeback. Finally, Morrison’s Smith induced an inning-ending fly out from Jones.
Morrison answered Amboy’s top inning with four runs of its own in the fifth. The team scored on an RBI single by Bird, an RBI triple by Ben Tegeler, an RBI double by Justin Jensen, and an RBI double by Sitzmore.
After pushing across one run in the top of the seventh, Amboy faced just a 13-8 deficit. An RBI single by Barlow fueled Amboy’s comeback. Morrison Mustangs Varsity closed the game when Fischbach got Clack to strike out.
