National touring guitar duo Patchouli is returning this spring to play a special concert. Their performance will be at the City of Morrison Community Room in the Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 7:00 p.m.
The Duo has performed several times in Morrison; rave reviews brought them back this April.
Master guitarist Bruce Hecksel is considered one of the most exciting acoustic lead guitar players of our time. He teamed up with Julie Patchouli, whose crystal pure voice and dynamic percussive guitar sparkle. Patchouli’s sound has been described as “the harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel meet[ing] the guitar brilliance of the Gipsy Kings.”
Patchouli’s music lyrically expresses that celebration of the beauty of nature; the healing messages of connection and environment; topics of tolerance and love; stories from their extensive travels.
The duo has been traveling in the U. S. Southeast for the past four months. Their return to the Midwest comes in time for a celebration of Spring and Earth Day, and they are coming with new music!
They just released their 18th album together, Terra Guitarra “Firelight,” a new instrumental guitar album. “Firelight” is number 1 on the OneWolrdMusicU.K. radio charts. It has been in the Top 10 on the world music charts since January 2015.
The songs on Firelight represent “a spiritual and physical healing journey of personal exploration and discovery,” according to Hecksel. “It’s about the everyday eternal labyrinth, where we strive to find our heart center.”
Patchouli adds, “This recording has a lot of rhythmic diversity and energy, a fiery spirit. We also take the Firelight concept to another level, by thinking of our sun as the ultimate firelight. So we bookended the album with the tunes ‘Maya’ and ‘Coucher du Soleil’ that represent a sunrise and a sunset, some of nature’s beauty that people have been enjoying since the time humans originated. Bruce’s artwork also incorporates. He painted a sunrise for the front cover and a sunset for the back of the CD.”
Performing their original blend of folk-meets-flamenco offers blazing guitars and heartstring-tugging lyrics. Patchouli’s energy and chemistry guarantee an uplifting night for the audience. Music will leave you uniquely inspired and excited to pick up that old guitar.

A suggested donation of $6 will be taken at the door. Refreshments will be available.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the International Thanksgiving Fellowship Program. This program has brought international college students from several Chicago colleges to Morrison since the 1960’s. Students stay with host families over Thanksgiving weekend, so they may experience a traditional American holiday.
