Do you have trouble waiting for football season to begin? Do you especially enjoy the big-rivalry contests? Then you will enjoy this unique summer opportunity. Attend an Alumni Football USA game and benefit the Morrison High School football program.
On Saturday, July 27, 2013, Morrison Mustang alums will play alums from Newman Central Catholic. The teams face off at 5:00 p.m., playing 15-minute quarters, at the Sterling High School football field, 1608 4th Avenue, Sterling, IL. Scott Pruis and Nate Vandermyde are Mustang Co-Captains.
Tim Stout, Mustang lineman coach, is in charge of the Morrison adult squad, comprised of 39 alums from the Classes of 1977 through 2012. They have practiced twice a week for three months. On Sunday, July 21, the team travels to Ashford University, Clinton, IA, to play on a turf field like the one they will face in Sterling.
Hilltop Lanes, 629 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, will hold pregame festivities in the parking lot.
- Meet the alumni team and offer “strategy suggestions.”
- Enter the raffle.
- Attend the send-off at 1:30 p.m., led by Wiersema Charter Service, Inc.
- Enjoy a lunch or supper hog roast, organized by Bob and Kelly McDonnell, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. onward. If you buy a meal ticket in advance this week–before Friday, July 26–from the McDonnells or thecity1.com, the price of a plate is $5. If you purchase at the event, the cost is $6. Meals include a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, and potato salad. Beverages can be purchased inside the bowling alley.
General admission, adult game tickets are on sale at thecity1.com, 218 W. Main Street, Suite 100, and the offices of the Whiteside News-Sentinel, 100 E. Main Street, Morrison. They cost $10 and are cash only.
Here is the critical part of this fundraiser. Each team keeps for their alma mater HALF THE MONEY from ADVANCED TICKET SALES–but receives nothing from sales at the stadium on July 27. The math is easy! Buy your ticket by Friday, July 26, and ensure $5 for the Morrison football program. With 1000 tickets alloted to Morrison alumni football players, $5000 is the goal.
Cannot attend the game? No problem. Purchase tickets as a generous donation to the Mustangs. After the event, game videos will be for sale from www.AlumniFootballUSA.
Greg Pruis, one of five Quarterbacks, stated, “You can keep signing up [to play] until Thursday, July 25.” The rationale for an Alumni Team is “to play ball one more time. The bonus is the school can make a little money.”
