Allen D. VenHuizen (1936 – 2015)

Allen D. VenHuizen, age 80, died Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL.

Allen was born on April 1, 1935, in Fulton, IL, the son of Roy and Grace (Heun) VenHuizen and was a graduate of Erie High School. He married Carol Bonneur on June 1, 1956. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2014. Allen was a lifelong farmer in Newton and Garden Plain Townships retiring in 2007. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, IA. He was a past Deacon and Elder of Newton Zion Reformed Church, Erie, IL. He coached the Garden Plain 4-H softball team. He had served on the former Garden Plain School Board.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Allon) Barsema of Fulton; four sons, Larry (Connie) VenHuizen of Fulton, Loren (Tammy) VenHuizen of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (Jody) VenHuizen of Indianola, IA, and Mark (Jon Lewis) VenHuizen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two sisters, Marilyn “Sis” Williams and Sheryl (Ron) Buikema both of Fulton; one brother, Vernon (Lonavene) VenHuizen of Fulton; 12 grandchildren, Michael Barsema, Matthew Barsema, Ryan VenHuizen, Kathy Zehr, Laura VenHuizen, Heather Youtzy, Keith VenHuizen, Zachary VenHuizen, Rachel Qualm, Joshua VenHuizen, Adam VenHuizen, and Andrew VenHuizen; nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Kenneth VenHuizen.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August, 18, 2015, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Fulton, IL.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at the funeral home, with Reverend Ron Lott of First Baptist Church, Clinton, IA, officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.

A memorial has been established to First Baptist Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
