Alfred Norman, 97, of Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community in Morrison, IL, and formerly of Fulton, IL, died Monday, September 16, 2019, at Windsor Manor.
Alfred, son of Albert and Katie (Blink) Norman was born November 21, 1921. He married Ella Mae DeVries in 1942, and they farmed together in Newton Township for 30 years. Alfie enjoyed his hobby of sales, which eventually turned into a career with the Agri-King Company in Fulton. He established Fulton Recreation Lanes with his brother, Isaac, and later built and operated the original car wash in town. In retirement, he enjoyed his golf cart business. Alfie was a member of Second Reformed Church, Fulton Kiwanis, and a charter member of the Fulton Country Club.
Survivors include three daughters and one son: Evelyn (Vernon) Pessman of Fulton, Linda (Larry) Russell of Fulton, Janice DeWeerdt of Phoenix, AZ, and Keith (Vicki) Norman of Fulton. His eight grandchildren are Traci Pessman, Tricia (Todd) Knutsen, Mark (Rebecca) Russell, Amber (Peter) Strang, Sam Norman, Sydney Norman, Sadie Norman, and Sara Norman. His great-grandchildren are Austin DeWeerdt, Madison and Lucas Knutsen, Olivia, Bryn, and Rowan Russell, and Jack Strang. He is also survived by sister-in-law Adalene Norman and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ella Mae; his parents; sister, Alice Dykema; brothers, Isaac, Henry and Arnold; son-in-law, Daniel DeWeerdt.
A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, Pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
A memorial has been established to Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community.
