On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, Christine Fulton made a service call, for an issue concerning new, computer electrical cords. She and husband Rob own Morrison Computer Repair LLC, 223 E. Main Street, across from Community State Bank, in Morrison, IL.
After the service call, she notified customer and the Editor, that she had noticed two alarming things.
1. A scorched, electrical power strip lay on the floor by the desk.
2. Plugged into it were the new computer connectors and a small space heater.
She stated people must never plug their space heater into a power strip, because of the high risk of fire.
“Power strips cannot handle the current a space heater draws, and they will over-heat, spark, and cause fire.
“The damaged strip should be replaced….The space heater should be moved to a location where it can be plugged directly into a properly wired [wall] outlet. I would really hate to see something [which has] a simple fix, cause a fire.”
Ironically, at her downtown office, the Editor uses a large electrical power strip to plug in a small space heater cord. Not any more! She will move the appliance cord to a proper wall outlet.
