albert benedictAlbert L. Benedict, Jr., 92, of Morrison, IL, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL.

Al was born October 12, 1921, in Morrison to Albert and Mary (Popkin) Benedict, Sr. He attended Morrison Grade Schools and later graduated from High School in Wisconsin. Al served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He married Arlene M. Montgomery in Morrison. Al started working for the United States Post Office and for many years had a rural route. He served on the State Board of the Illinois Rural Letter Carriers and was later the Secretary of the Board. Al was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, where he served as treasurer and was always ready to volunteer when help was needed. He was a member of the Morrison American Legion Post #328 and served as an officer on the Board. He was also a member of the Morrison VFW #8281 and the Morrison Masonic Lodge. Al enjoyed playing cards and was still bowling at 91.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; one granddaughter, Alison (Jon) Manternach of Virginia; two great-grandsons, Luke and Mark Manternach.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, and a son, David.

MEMORIAL SERVICE:  11:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Morrison, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Dr. Michael Selburg, Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Morrison, IL

VISITATION:  9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, Friday, May 23, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Morrison, IL

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
