On Thursday, June 7, 2018, the U. S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons announced that Administrative United States Penitentiary (AUSP) in Thomson, IL, will begin the final phase of activation.
The institution will house High Security inmates in general population and inmates requiring Special Management programs. Inmates are expected to arrive in the months ahead. The Satellite Camp will continue to house Minimum Security inmates.
Many significant renovations and security upgrades at the institution were completed. Projects in progress include a Staff Training Center, minor site improvements, and a Firing Range.
Recruiting, hiring, and training new staff continues. Approximately 300 vacancies will be filled and include the following positions:
