Our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, will give the guest sermon at the Thomson Sesquicentennial Community Church Service, on Sunday, July 26, 2015. He will speak in Curley Park, Thomson, IL, on the grounds of the Sesquicentennial. The service begins at 10:00 a.m.
His subject will be God’s dealings with our Nation during the Civil War, as well as his own spiritual journey. President Lincoln’s message will remind us how we, in the United States, are richly blessed.
Abraham Lincoln will be portrayed by Kevin Wood of Oak Park, IL, who has performed the President for over 12 years here and abroad. His sermon will symbolize the cooperation of our area churches, as the community gathers to worship as one. Some seating will be available, but lawn chairs are suggested. Music will be provided.
A Community Potluck Dinner will be held following the service, in the Thomson Methodist Church shelter house, also in Curley Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share and their own table service. Drinks will be provided by the United Methodist Churches of Thomson, and Argo Fay, IL.
The Gospel Sing will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the entertainment tent near the shelter in Curley Park.
Thomson Lions Club and the Thomson Chamber of Commerce are sponsors of this speaker.
If weather is inclement, the rain venue will be York Community Church, 2301 IL Route 84, Thomson, across the highway from Heritage Cafe.
