Scam Targeting ComEd Accounts

Posted by

glovedhandPhoneMorrison, IL, Police Department would like to raise awareness on another scam that continues and is targeting ComEd customers.  This is how the scam is being attempted.

Individuals are calling ComEd customers and falsely claiming their electric service will be disconnected, unless payment is made immediately.

These impersonators pressure customers to buy a prepaid credit card and call back to a different number, with the personal identification number (PIN) or other personal information.

They also use a tactic called “spoofing,” to manipulate your phone’s Caller ID, to display a phone number that appears to be an actual ComEd number.

According to ComEd’s own Alert on this scam, ComEd representatives will never call a customer to ask you to purchase prepaid credit cards to make a payment on a bill.

If you have concerns about the status of your account, call ComEd’s Customer Service line at 1-800-334-7661.
