Sunday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m.: “THE HISTORY OF GAS STATIONS IN FULTON.” Gas stations served multi-purposes in our community; auto service was only one of them. Businesses/owners to be discussed, to name a few, are Jimmie Jones; Bob Decker; Kadyk; Rich Vogel; Sinclair/Bielema & Schaver; Standard/Earl Lawton, Tommy Hand, George Hill; Hank’s; Shell/ Mileage Mart (foot of the old bridge); Dutch Boy.
Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m.: “FOUR U. S. PRESIDENTS WITH AN ILLINOIS CONNECTION.” Retired History teacher Ron Koehn will present a PowerPoint on the similarities and contrasts of Presidents Lincoln, Grant, Reagan, and Obama. All hailed from Illinois, and one was born in Whiteside County.
Saturday, May 28, at 10:00 a.m.: “A SALUTE TO BERNARD (BUD) SNYDE, ONE OF FULTON’S FALLEN HEROES.” Mike Senneff continues his annual series honoring the memory of Fulton’s soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in WWII.
Sunday, September 18, at 2:00 p.m.: “WHITESIDE: SAMUEL, THE MAN; THE GENERAL; THE WAR HERO; THE NAMESAKE OF OUR COUNTY; THE SHIP NAMED IN HIS HONOR.” This PowerPoint will be presented by Stephanie Vavra of Morrison, IL, as we all learn about General Samuel Whiteside.
Sunday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m.: “HISTORY OF THE SALOONS, TAVERNS, AND BARS IN FULTON.” This is one of the most interesting and enjoyable research projects conducted by FHS. In 1856, there were 26 saloons in Fulton. Licensing, Breweries, and Services provided will be the topic of this PowerPoint presentation.
Sunday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m.: “THE FORGOTTEN WAR–KOREA.” Bob Brands of Morrison, IL, a medal recipient, will discuss his military service in the 1950’s during the Korean conflict. Other veterans of this era will be honored on this Veteran’s Day weekend program.
