On Sunday, March 6, 2016, Girls Scouts of the USA celebrated Girl Scout Sunday across the Nation. The largest American female organization began on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, GA, at the design of Juliette Gordan Lowe. GSUSA celebrates its 103rd anniversary during the current Girl Scout Week.
Some Brownie and Cadette Girl Scout Troops took part in church services at Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, at 10:15 a.m. The Reverend Ryan Sutton invited all Girl Scouts to come forward. He asked them to describe what they liked about Girl Scouts. He and Brownie Leader Hillary Blevins awarded Corrine Carroll, Macy Williamson, Annabelle Blevins, and Yvette Stafford their “My Promise My Faith” pins.
“The motivating force in Girl Scouting is spiritual,” states the Preamble, in the Constitution of Girl Scouts of USA.
Standing left-to-right in front are Carole Patton; Brownie Troop #1504 Leader Blevins; Brownie Girl Scouts Yvette, Annabelle, and Peyton Lowery. This troop voted to spend some of their cookie sale earnings to visit the Build-A-Bear store in Davenport, IA, on April 24. They will donate money to a water-related charity and host an Art and Science Badge Day at the Odell Public Library.
In back is Pastor Sutton with Corrine and Macy from Cadette Girl Scout Troop #5294. They have been Girls Scouts for seven years, enjoying camping and making and eating food “at almost every meeting.” On this day they served as acolytes.
