Annual Lions Rose Day Sale in Progress

rosebouquetDay to day changes in the weather make spring and Easter a bit closer.  It is time to place your orders for roses from a Lions Club member.  Easter is early–Sunday, March 27, 2016.  Delivery of roses will be on Good Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26.  There is no better way to bring a smile to someone and also support the Morrison Lions Club scholarship award and vision and hearing needs in the community.  The cost is $15 for a dozen.

If you are not contacted, you can place orders by contacting Bob Smith, 815-772-2896, Jim Blakemore, 815-772-3744, Flora Stralow, 815-772-4874, or Rebecca Green, 815-535-3290.  Orders must be received by Friday, March 18.

An annual donation was made to Morrison Youth Baseball & Softball.  The club also voted to make a special donation to Leader Dogs for the Blind, located in Rochester Hills, MI.  Funds will be used for completion of the major renovation of the dog training center.  The club donates annually for operating expenses of this kennel.  For more information on the services available and the renovation project, check out their website at www.leaderdog.org.

The club donated to the Lions of Illinois Foundation Comprehensive Low Vision Programs for Youth.   This is a partnership with “Seeing is Believing” to provide screenings for sight preservation, education in vision care, and optical tools to enable youth to live a better life with sight.  LIF partners with Spectrios Institute for Low Vision and serves students kindergarten through 12th grade in Northern Illinois, who are referred by local school districts.

MM GreenRebecca Green, right, introduced the speaker, Marsha Ecker-Heiden, left, at the Tuesday, February 2, meeting.  She is the owner of the newly opened M and M Bed & Breakfast located north of Morrison at 16477 Capp Road.  She purchased the property belonging to her grandparents and spent several years renovating the property.  It is a 4th generation family home built in the 1880’s.  Ecker-Heiden spent untold hours of hard work to make it a very inviting bed and breakfast:  a place to get away from the busy world, with no wi-fi, cable, or satellite.  Rockwood State Park is nearby so wildlife can be observed.  Two reasonably priced rooms with private baths are available, and she serves a continental breakfast.

Zone Chairman Richard Delp visited the club on Tuesday, February 2, and presented a 15 year chevron to Lion Aaron Johnson.  This is Delp’s first year as a zone chairman, but he has been a member of the Lanark Lions Club for 39 years.

Martha Kophamer will have the program for the Tuesday, March 1, meeting.  All are welcome to come to any of our meetings, held on the first and third Tuesday at noon each month at Happy Joe’s, 109 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL.

More information can be found by visiting the club’s website at www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/morrisonil.
