Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Fatality Report

On 2-14-16 at 12:12 p.m., Whiteside County Deputies were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident with multiple injuries, on Illinois Route 84 a half mile north of Covell Road.   When Deputies arrived on scene, it was determined a tan Buick LaSabre driven by Brendan R. Hofman, age 29 of Savanna, IL, was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 84 north of Covell Road, when he lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle went off the roadway into the east ditch and then continued northbound with the passenger side first.  In addition, a green Ford Ranger driven by Daniel D. Hoffman, age 68 of Savanna, was traveling southbound in the same area.  The tan Buick then crossed over the center line where the vehicles collided.  Brendan and the front seat passenger Jennifer N. Hoffman, age 31 of Savanna, were extracted from the vehicle and transported to Mercy North Hospital in Clinton, IA.  Daniel, rear seat passenger of Brendan’s vehicle Barbara J. Yenney, age 51 of Savanna, and a two-year-old infant were also transported to Mercy North Hospital for their injuries.   Eventually, after being transferred to University Hospital in Davenport, IA, Jennifer Hoffman succumbed to her injuries at 7:15 p.m.  The accident remains under investigation.
