LEGO Club Open House

MarlaMitchSeegerTo promote the new LEGO Club, which begins from 10:30 to noon, Saturday, February 6, 2016, Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, hosted a LEGO Club Open House.  On Saturday, January 23, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, the Program Room was filled with youngsters who knew just what to do with the mezmerizing, multicolored plastic pieces.

All ages of builders attended the Open House.  Marla Seeger needed some help from her dad, Mitch, using LEGO DUPLOS.  At age “two in February,” Marla was one of the youngest builders.  Other parents watched or assisted.

Katie Ryder stressed the LEGO Club will be for all ages of builders–even adults.  “We have middle-grades [today] mostly so far,” she noted.  The club will have a different building theme each month, or participants can simply choose to free-build.  LEGO creations will be on display at Odell until the following LEGO Club meeting.  Building blocks will be provided by the library, so there is no need to bring your own.

Future LEGO Club Saturday dates are March 5, April 2, and May 7.

Odell Public Library Director Lori Matlack stated, “Other libraries are doing this, too.  The staff discussed the idea, but Katie is the party maker.”  Regarding the need for more building materials, Jan Horberg was credited with obtaining a $250 grant from Thrivent Financial to initiate the club’s supply.  Matlack continued, “We knew we would need more.  We are always accepting donations.”
