On Thursday, December 17, 2016, the Mustang Wrestling team took on Polo, IL, and Conference rival (Sterliing, IL,) Newman.  John Anderson got things started for the squad with a pin against the Marcos.  A couple weight classes later, Brandon Meier earned a pin.  The 106 lb weight class featured returning State qualifier Augustus Linke and Freshman stud Noah Paul of Polo.  Both are ranked in the Top Ten in the State–with Linke holding the #1 position.

Linke struck first, scoring a takedown out of a scramble.  The next two periods were wrestled tight with little scoring. There were several flurries with neither wrestler scoring.  Linke scored an escape in the second and held onto a 3-2 lead.  After Linke’s match Cody Vanderlaan, Joe Eads, and Dylan Keller scored pins, securing the 45-24 victory. Keller put everyone in the State on notice after dismantling the #6 ranked Jesse Ditzler.  Keller had secured a major decision prior to pinning Ditzler.

Next the Mustangs faced Newman, in what has been a back-and-forth matchup over the past few years.  The wrestlers took to their Conference foes and stamped out a 48-21 victory.

The dual featured some closely contested matches.  Reilly Dolan and Eli Monier lit up the gym, putting 35 points collectively on the board.  The match had an incredible amount of funky scrambles, with each wrestler scoring points. In the end Monier, a Senior, won the final exchange and the match.
