Sunday, January 10, 2016, will be the first rehearsal for the biannual performance of Handel’s “Messiah.” This event is sponsored by the Morrison Ministers’ Council.
Rehearsals will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 601 N. Jackson Street, in Morrison, IL. Singers who own the G. Schirmer edition of “Messiah” should bring their music with them, but scores can be purchased or borrowed.
The Morrison Ecumenical Chorus will present the Lent and Easter portions at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.
These “Messiah” concerts, which include the stirring “Hallelujah Chorus,” have been sponsored by the Morrison Ministers Council since 1956.
“Messiah” was first performed in Morrison in 1956 under the direction of Louise Mathew. Since then, these concerts have become a strong part of Morrison’s musical and religious traditions. This year’s performance will be conducted by Kathy Janicek, Choir Director at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison. Accompanist will be Christine Holmer of Clinton, IA.
Anyone who is unable to attend the first rehearsal or who has questions may call Janicek at 815-772-2874. All interested singers are encouraged to join this choir.
