The doors are open, welcoming the public to a Christmas Open House at the Donnybrook Bakery Café, 203 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL, on Friday, December 11, 2015. The Irish pub is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Owner Bob Vaughn stated, “There will be lots of sampling!  Try multi-layered carrot petit fours and Debby’s Blondie Bites.”

The establishment also will be open Saturday, December 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“We are reintroducing the Mad Irish Woman grilled turkey and cheese panini.  Because of its popularity during last week’s Christmas Walk, we will continue our “White Christmas” hot (white) chocolate, with a dash of creme de menthe.  It’s the only green hot chocolate you’ll ever find!”

Enjoy bakery-and-a-beverage for breakfast or brunch.  Sandwich or soup makes a swell supper or lunch.

The expanded menu–now with six specialty sandwiches and two soups–runs from 11:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.  Three salad choices are cranberry fluff, cole slaw, or red potato.  A favorite sandwich is back, and a new “old” soup is on the menu.

  • Mad Irish Woman (turkey, cole slaw, and Irish Red Leicester cheese panini-style/grilled sandwich) on sourdough bread
  • Grilled Cheese (three cheeses on white bread)
  • Dubliner (ham and cheese panini-style/grilled sandwich) on mapley Apple Fritter toasted bread
  • Ham Salad on a bed of fresh lettuce on Wheat bread
  • Donnybrook (corned beef panini-style/grilled sandwich)
  • Chicken Salad sandwich on Cranberry-Oat bread
  • old-fashioned Ham and Bean Soup on Friday
  • homemade, gluten-free Chili and Corn Bread on Saturday.

Vaughn added, “A new dessert this weekend is triple-layer caramel, apple, vanilla cake.  Or choose pecan pie or apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.”

Shop for Christmas and winter items, like the last four members of a herd of fabric reindeer.  You can take them home without needing a sleigh.

Shoppers are urged to “strip the Christmas trees” of ornaments–some real bargains–flowers, stuffed figures, and birds.  Attractive decor items are meant for people to enjoy in their homes.

Non-alcoholic and alcoholic Christmas drinks are available any time.  Try the new Tugboat Holiday Blend coffee; if you love it, take home a 12 oz retail bag.  Vaughn noted, “Jack Frost Mocha is already a favorite or try Peppermint Mocha.”

Sip the Christmas Walk specialty drink, the Donnybrook Toddy–made with Irish Celtic Honey (iced or hot.)
