George E. Dykhuizen, Jr., 84, of Pleasant View Home, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the Home.
George was born October 22, 1931, in Morrison, IL, to George and Myrtle F. (Shugars) Dykhuizen, Sr. He was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He never married. George was first employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation in road maintenance. Following his military service, George was employed as a farm hand by various farmers. He resided with his parents until 1989 and later resided in Prophetstown, IL, for a short time, until returning to Morrison. George was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening. He was a kindhearted, self sacrificing, and giving individual. However, he was often misunderstood by those he came in contact with because of a stubborn, eccentric personality.
Survivors include a cousin, Nora Bush of Urbana, IL, who lived with the family as George was growing up. Other survivors include Nora’s daughter, Linda (Charles) Vaughn of Urbana, IL, cousins, and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
