Calling all Master Builders! LEGOS are coming to your local library. There’s a new club in town for anyone who loves to build. LEGO-lovers of all ages are invited to attend monthly build sessions at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, beginning January 2016.
LEGOS will be provided. Participants can choose to build structures based on a changing monthly theme or simply free-build. Each meeting will last about 90 minutes. Participants will be able to present their creations to the group and display their design at the library until the next meeting.
Odell is currently seeking donations of LEGOS to build our collection. Because LEGOS are so wonderfully sturdy and timeless, used LEGOS are just as welcome as new.
We are essentially looking for
- any size or quantity of LEGO bricks
- base plates to build on
- any LEGO figurines
- Duplos, larger bricks designed for younger builders.

Why is Odell so excited to start a LEGO Club? Plenty of research backs up such a fun idea.
Playing with LEGOS offers children and adults something physical, imaginative, and even mechanical. A 2006 study titled “Play=Learning” by Dorothy Singer, Senior Research Scientist at Yale University, says that imaginative play experiences–like those with LEGOS–lay the foundation for logical mathematical thinking, scientific reasoning, and problem solving. Not bad for a hard, plastic toy, right?
In addition, LEGO Club will give members of our community the space and opportunity to come together in a fun, safe learning environment. No experience is needed. Simply build, play, and enjoy!
Odell is currently surveying the community to establish the best dates and times for LEGO Club to meet. If your family is interested in participating, please stop by the library to let us know your preferences.
