Morrison High School Madrigal Singers have great cause to celebrate! This year marks their 40th year anniversary–making them one of the oldest Madrigal programs in the Midwest.
The concept of Madrigal Choirs was introduced nearly 60 years ago at the collegiate level. Illinois State University is mostly responsible for its spread to high schools throughout Illinois. MHS’s Madrigal program began with John Frame, who graduated from ISU and decided to bring this new concept to Morrison.
Forty years later, the program is still thriving. Last year nearly 300 people attended Madrigal Performances, and this year even more attendees are expected.
Meagan Zahora, Director of Choral Activities and a graduate of ISU, is so thankful for her involvement in such a prestigious Madrigal program. She has had such a wonderful experience with the Morrison Madrigal Singers in the past three years of her career. She would like to give back to the community by featuring MHS Madrigal alumni in this year’s festivities. All alumni will receive a discounted ticket price (20%) and special recognition. They will join the Madrigal Singers for a song, which is to be arranged.
Zahora is asking community members to
- send her the email address of any alumni they might know
- direct alumni to the Morrison Choir webpage http://morrisonchoir.weebly.com/alumni-events.html.
She will be posting in a tab on her website labeled “Alumni Events” under the “Events” tab. This will include a printable PDF of the song alumni will be singing and information pertaining to the event.
The Morrison Madrigal Singers are so excited to celebrate 40 years! This ensemble is something that the community should truly be proud of. Join the celebration; reservations go on sale Friday, October 9, 2015.
