A Day of Fun and Color September 19

color run 1On Saturday, September 19, 2015, roads and streets in and around Morrison, IL, will be filled with individuals participating in some colorful events.  Some will look completely different by the end of the day, like these girls!

A full day of colorful activities is scheduled.  The community will join for a day where artists and athletes may enjoy complete appearance changes.  Attendees can enjoy witnessing it.

The first event of the day, Morrison Rotary’s Harvest Hammer Races, begins at 8:00 a.m. at Morrison High School, 642 Genesee Avenue, Morrison.  Those races will include runners and cyclists of all ages, who race into the rural areas among the greens and golds of the maturing harvests.  They compete in the 5K, 21-mile Duathalon, and shorter sprint races for the younger road-runners.

Later, at 11:30 a.m., the second annual “Color Run” will begin at Morrison High School.  Runners race along Genesee Street leading to downtown Morrison.  The uniqueness of the event is that, at three different checkpoints, sweaty runners will be dusted by colorful powder.  Some may become unrecognizable at the conclusion of the run!  If you are not running, come line the streets for some exciting photo opportunities.

Harvest Hammer participants of all ages may enter the Color Run at no additional fee.  Those entering the Color Run only will pay $10.

As runners end their colorful experience, artistic talents of many will begin at noon.  People paint their squares on the streets of downtown.  Paint the Town (PTT) will continue all afternoon and into the evening, with over 2000 squares anticipated to be painted into masterpieces.  This year celebrates Paint the Town’’s 21st year as a unique community event.  It is open to anyone who wishes to enjoy the day’s activities, food, and musical entertainment.  PTT is organized by CAPA, the Children’s Art Preservation Association, which provides scholarships and support of art programs in the local schools.

Register online to paint a square at www.paintthetownmorrison.com or at Morrison City Hall, 200 W. Main Street, Morrison, for $13 until Thursday, September 15.  Register for $18 the day of the event, beginning at noon when paint supplies are distributed.
