The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and Mounted Patrol host the annual Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 12, 2013, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., with major prizes awarded after fishing ends. The law enforcement agencies have sponsored the derby for more than 40 years.
This popular, free fishing contest is open to all youth aged 15 and under.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Lake Carlton marina in Morrison-Rockwood State Park, Morrison, IL. A parent or guardian must sign for each child.
- Prizes will be awarded to all participants throughout the morning.
- Grand prizes are awarded for the largest fish (total length) in each category: bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and muskie/walleye.
- Special prizes are awarded for individual efforts.
