Thelma P. Zaagman-Venhuizen (1932 – 2015)

thelma venhuizenThelma P. Zaagman-Venhuizen, 83, of Morrison, IL, died Monday August 10, 2015, at Morrison Community Hospital.

Thelma was born July 25, 1932, in Clinton, IA, to Thomas and Martha (Byland) Wiersema. She was educated in the Erie grade schools and graduated from Erie High School. On December 28, 1950, she married William J. Zaagman. He died December 20, 1998. She then married Francis Venhuizen on December 2, 2000, in Morrison. While William was serving in the Korean War, Thelma worked at General Electric in Morrison as a payroll clerk. She and William then farmed in the Lyndon, IL, and Morrison areas. She was also a self-employed seamstress and a homemaker. Thelma was a member of Morrison Christian Reformed Church, where she played the organ and was a member of the Ladies Aide Society. She was a board member at Resthave Home in Morrison and Self-Help Enterprises in Sterling, IL.

Survivors include her husband, Francis; three sons, Gordon (Paulette) Zaagman of Morrison, James (Candace) Zaagman of Prophetstown, IL, and Bruce (Lisa) Zaagman of Lyndon; 11 grandchildren, Toni (Chad) Milnes, Shari (Paul) Griffin, Keith Zaagman, Jason (Amber) Zaagman, Kody Zaagman, Katelynn Zaagman, Kolton Zaagman, Bridget (Derrick) Maupin, Matthew (Mandy) VanDerLeest, Nicholas VanDerLeest, Austin (Allie) VanDerLeest; 11 great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Nancy (Mark) Kapusinski of Fulton; three step-grandchildren, Douglas (Rita) Kapusinski, Andrea (Brandon) Cooper, Gregory (Kristen) Kapusinski; four step-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Roland VanDerLeest of Morrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William; one daughter, Debra VanDerLeest; one grandson, Brent Zaagman; one sister, Ella Mae Huizenga

FUNERAL SERVICE:  12:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

OFFICIATING:  Ken Renkes, Director of Congregational Care at Ebenezer Reformed Church

VISITATION:  9:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015, until the time of the service at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL

Memorials to Self-Help Enterprises and Morrison Christian Reformed Church have been established.
