Sales Tax Changes for Retailers and Service Providers

Attached is a, Illinois Department of Revenue Bulletin regarding new Sales Taxes, which become effective Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

The Department of Revenue sent either a hard copy letter or an email to retailers reminding them of the change. The Morrison City Office has heard that some of these emails are ending up in the “Junk Folder” or being flagged as “Spam.”  Please review the contents of your email for this notice.

A business’s accounting firm may have received the notice–if the accounting firm is generally the main contact with the State.

According to the Department of Revenue, retailers will be sent an invoice for the Sales Tax whether they collect it or not.  Therefore, it is important to adjust cash register software, as necessary, to properly collect the tax.
