The Relay For Life of Whiteside County committee, shown below, hosted the annual “Survivor and Caregiver Dinner” on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Harvest Time Bible Church, 1802 Dixon Avenue, in Rock Falls, IL. Over 200 survivors and caregivers were in attendance. Irene-Lewis-Wimbley provided musical entertainment during the evening.
Dr. Kathleen Heppner Goss was the keynote speaker. She is the Senior Science Writer and Director of Strategic Partnerships at the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center. She shared with the audience the importance of Relay For Life events and how the funds raised are helping with cancer search. Her work at the University is supported by American Cancer Society grants.
The Relay For Life event in Whiteside County will be held on Saturday, June 13, at Hinders Field at Rock Falls High School, 508 15th Avenue, Rock Falls, IL. This year it will only be a six hour event, with children’s activities beginning at 3:00 p.m. There will be live music, food, and games between 3:00 and 5:00. The kick-off and the first lap–featuring cancer survivors–will begin at 6:00. The public is invited to attend.
