On Sunday, July 26, 2026, American history aficionado Lonnie Rice will offer a free public program about Morrison, IL, soldiers during the Civil War. Hosted by Morrison Historical Society, this presentation will be in the City of Morrison Community Room, [Odell Public Library], 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., and Rice’s talk begins promptly at 1:30. Refreshments will be served.
Encourage any service member and teens to attend. Rice will address combat by children as young as 12.
Rice buys, sells, and trades vintage guns and items related to the Civil War and Cowboy life.
He holds a Colt Army pistol made in 1860, prior to the Civil War. His memorabilia will illuminate that story: flasks, canteens, bullets, cannon balls, swords, uniform parts, and a piece of a shattered Virginia tree from a battle site.

East of the pavilion a handcrafted stone structure holds a plaque dedicated “In Loving Memory of Alpheus Clark Post No. 118.” It lists 162 members of the Grand Army of the Republic, who participated in the Civil War. At the base are 21 names who fought in the Spanish American War.
One of the black, granite, memorial slabs includes updated names: 53 veterans under the title “Civil War.” There are two more named for service in the Spanish American War and one from the Phillipine Insurrection.
