Viola M. Parkinson, 87, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at her home.
Viola was born July 6, 1927, in Van Pelton, IL, to Alfred and Geraldine (Langford) Strock. She was educated in the Sterling, IL, grade schools and was a graduate of Sterling High School. Vi married Robert B. “Bob” Parkinson on December 29, 1945, in Sterling. He died July 5, 2008. Bob and Vi farmed for many years, retiring, and moving to Morrison in 1982. She was a member of First Christian Church of Sterling and a member and Past President of Morrison Hospital Auxiliary in Morrison. Viola taught piano, organ, and accordion lessons. She enjoyed traveling, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue (Arlyn) Ottens of Morrison; two sons, Ken (fiancée Linda Pingel) Parkinson of Erie, IL; Richard (Deb) Parkinson of Rock Island, IL; six grandchildren, Chris Behrens, Patti (Mitch) Renkes, Jason Parkinson, Kelly (Dan) Jones, Shellie Parkinson, and Sonja (Adam) Samek; seven step-grandchildren, Stephanie Hartman, Sheila (Rod) Oostenryk, Sara (Pat) Young, Bart (Cindy) Ottens, Brett Ottens, Nikki Arians, and Charles Collings; seven great-grandchildren, Collin Renkes, Caitlin Renkes, Ezra Parkinson, Hunter Jones, Gavin Jones, Parker Samek, and Cooper Samek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; one brother, Don Dauen.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
OFFICIATING: Rev. Chris Byrd, Pastor of Open Bible Fellowship, Morrison, IL
VISITATION: 12:30 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, until the time of the service at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
