Brock Smith recorded the win for Morrison. He allowed four runs over seven innings. Smith struck out three, walked none, and gave up eight hits.
Bureau Valley’s Smith was charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in seven innings, walked three, and struck out two.
The game’s last lead went to Morrison Mustangs Varsity, thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate, on an RBI double by Ben Tegeler and an RBI single by Justin Jensen.
Bureau Valley matched its one-run first inning with one more in the third. In the first, Bureau Valley scored on an RBI double by Smith, bringing home Mead.
An RBI single by Konneck set off a Bureau Valley rally. Finally, BV’s Smith induced an inning-ending ground out from Morrison’s Smith.
The Mustangs increased their lead with two runs in the sixth. A sacrifice fly scored Seth Peterson for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Bird‘s single, plating Cody Southern.
Morrison piled on four more runs in the top of the seventh. Southern started the inning with a double, bringing home Jensen and Mason Sitzmore.
After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the seventh, Bureau Valley faced just a 9-4 deficit. A two-run double by Konneck sparked Bureau Valley’s rally. Smith got the last out.
