Andy Bird drove in the winning run to give Morrison Mustangs Varsity the lead in the seventh inning, as the Mustangs hung on to beat Rockridge 6-5 on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
Ethan Fischbach hit into a fielder’s choice. Bird came to the plate with the score tied at five and doubled, scoring Fischbach. Bird put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Mustangs.
Mason Sitzmore recorded the win for MHS. He allowed three runs over two innings. Sitzmore struck out one, walked two, and gave up three hits.
Morrison was sparked by Fischbach and Bird, who teamed up for five hits and two RBI’s.
Downing ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed two runs.
Morrison jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A double by Ben Tegeler, plating Bird, started the inning.
Rockridge got two-run rallies in the fourth inning and the fifth. In the fourth, Rockridge scored on an RBI single by Kistler, scoring Renteria.
After posting one run in the fifth, the Mustangs again scored one in the seventh. In the fifth, they scored on an RBI double by Bird, plating Fischbach.
It didn’t take long for Rockridge to respond, as it scored two runs of its own in the fifth. Rockridge scored on an RBI single by Downing and an RBI single by Renteria.
