Pumpkin Seed Growing Contest

Youths age 18 and under and adults age 19 and over are encouraged to enter the Thomson, IL, Sesquicentennial Pumpkin Seed Growing Contest.  Good planting begins the first of June 2015, in order to see pumpkin results by Hallowe’en in late October.

All pumpkins must be grown from Gladiator seeds donated by McGinnis Farms and distributed from York Township Library, 1005 W. Main Street, in Thomson, IL.  Pick of a free pack of seven seeds, which have a 92% successful growth rate.

Prizes for the youth and adult divisions are as follows:

  • Best Decorated
  • Heaviest by Weight
  • Largest by Circumference
  • Most Pumpkins to One Plant
  • Ugliest Pumpkin
  • Smallest Pumpkin.

On Saturday, October 31, pumpkins must be brought for judging to the Thomson Hallowe’en Party, co-sponsored by the Thomson Sesquicentennial Committee, at the Thomson Fire Station.
