The “Let’s Feed Our Children” program will hold a planning meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. This free lunch program, an initiative of United Way of Whiteside County, provides lunches for children three days a week–in every town in Whiteside County. During 11 weeks of summer 2014, over 35,000 free lunches were given out in Whiteside County.
The meeting will be held at the United Way of Whiteside County office, 502 First Avenue, Sterling, IL. For more information, call Russ at 815-625-7973.
Individual or group volunteers are needed to work at 14 sites making the sandwiches each day. Ready-made lunch items include juice, fresh fruit, snack bars, and other items.
Sites begin making sandwiches around 10:00 a.m. and hand them out from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m.
At the meeting on April 14, groups or individuals may sign up for a site. Volunteers may work for just three days, several weekly shifts, or a month.
