“Where do your ideas come from?” is the most often-asked question of an author. Usually, they reply that ideas are all around, and writers often write about familiar things and places. Today, asking the source of something artistic or clever might lead to “on pinterest.com” as the answer.
That is what Pat Fuller said, when asked where the Odell Public Library staff found the idea for a colorful Christmas tree made of books.
Pinterest is an online “pin board” where viewers post examples of their creativity, decorating, recipes, solutions, inspirational sayings, etc. “Organize and share things you love,” it advises. Collecting and saving–pinning–this information on your page is easy–and captivating.
One could spend a lot of time enjoying the wide range of offerings. Need picture instructions for French braiding? Want a recipe for vodka pasta? Need to remove scratches from leather or hang an upside down Christmas tree from the ceiling? This is the place. Topics range from A (animals) to V (videos.)
Fuller, Librarian Connie Boonstra, and staffer Elisa Rideout worked from 11:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, carefully and artistically arranging the tiers, lights, and Santa hat tree topper. “Snow” and a white picket fence added to the charm, and a nutcracker stood sentinel.
